Folding patio doors are used to expand home interiors for seamless indoor-outdoor transitions. Often referred to as bi-fold doors, accordion doors or folding glass doors, these systems fold in on themselves, creating larger, more unobstructed openings than most sliding patio doors.

Before investing in a folding door system, you’ll need to get a general idea of pricing so you can budget accordingly.

How much are folding patio doors?

They generally cost anywhere between $800 - $1200 per linear square foot, depending on the size of the opening, number of panels, material choice, glass and finish options.

Size of Opening

Folding patio doors allow for the widest opening, folding all the way to the wall, on one or both sides. The wider the opening, the more expensive your patio door project will be.

So how wide is a bi-fold door? Standard LaCantina bifold door systems are 7’ or 8’ tall, and 9’, 12’, 15’ or 18’ wide. However, these systems are also available in unlimited configurations (from 2 to 20 panels total) up to 65’ wide. Some configurations include a “daily use” swing door for easy access. You can customize your door system with panels up to 10’ tall with a maximum panel width of 39”.

Material Choice

Folding patio door frames can be made of wood, fiberglass, steel or aluminum. If you’re looking for something on the lower end of the price range, aluminum if your best bet. Fiberglass is a mid-range material, and authentic wood will cost significantly more. LaCantina Doors also offers an Aluminum Thermally Controlled material, perfect for those climates where you want to keep either the cold or hot air out and the ideal temperature in.  Check out our Interactive Videos to help determine the best material choice for your home.

Glass & Finish Options

You can also choose from a wide range of glazing options for improved thermal performance, safety, protection and privacy—each at a different price point. Custom options, like impact-resistant glass or decorative glass will increase your patio door costs between 10% and 30%.

Pricing can also vary based on size customizations, so you’ll want to figure out how wide your opening is and how many panels you’ll need. Standard lengths and widths can save you money and time, while custom sizes will cost more.
